Basketball Recap: Oakwood Takes a Loss

Oakwood lost against North Vermillion back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Oakwood Comets took a 41-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the North Vermillion Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 625th in Illinois, while the Falcons are ranked 178th in Indiana).

When it comes to explaining why Oakwood lost, don't look at Gracie Hanner. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points. Hanner has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

North Vermillion got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nora Thomann out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kera Dunham, who put up nine points.

This is the second loss in a row for Oakwood and nudges their season record down to 5-13. As for North Vermillion, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakwood will host Hoopeston at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for North Vermillion, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Riverton Parke at 7:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
