Softball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Ludlow Panthers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 1-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Ludlow, their record now sits at 5-7-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

For Ludlow's part, they got a massive performance out of Charlotte Burke, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Burke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Gillespie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Coming up, Newport will face off against Lloyd Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ludlow, they will head out to face off against Gallatin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
