Softball Recap: Beloit Memorial Takes a Loss

Beloit Memorial had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-13 to make it four. They fell just short of the Janesville Parker Vikings by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Purple Knights have suffered since April 8th.

Rilynne Cleland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

As for Janesville Parker, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch.

On Janesville Parker's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Lilly Keller gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Delaney King was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Donnavee Kong, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Beloit Memorial will challenge Union Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Purple Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Janesville Parker, they will take on Waunakee at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
