Baseball Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. New Britain Golden Hurricanes

The Southington Blue Knights will head out to face off against the New Britain Golden Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Southington can't be too worried about heading out to take on New Britain: they just beat Maloney at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Blue Knights put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 10-3 win on Saturday.

Rocco Davino looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Colin LaRosa, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Zach Noyes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.

Southington was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, New Britain got themselves on the board against Goodwin RVT on Saturday, but Goodwin RVT never followed suit. They didn't even let the Gladiators on the board, marking their second-straight 14-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Hurricanes.

Southington is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for New Britain, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7.

Southington took their victory against New Britain in their previous meeting back in May of 2022 by a conclusive 19-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
