Softball Recap: Corinth Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Corinth Christian Academy had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-7 to make it five. They came up short against the First Christian Lions, falling 17-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for First Christian, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

For First Christian's part, Victoria Loehr was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Loehr has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, First Christian got a massive performance out of Roniyah Bennett, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Bennett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Corie Wheeler, who went 2-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.

As of now, neither Corinth Christian Academy nor First Christian have any future games scheduled.
