League recap: Washburn Rural stuns Hayden in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Washburn Rural, who defeated 47th ranked Hayden, 21-18. Michael Singer ran for 138 yards during the win.

Emporia was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to fifth in Centennial. The Spartans vanquished Highland Park 60-13 earlier in the week.

Shawnee Heights's dynamic duo of Camden Wheatley and Austen Hubert proved tough for Junction City/St. Xavier to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wheatley threw for 242 yards and Hubert had 64 yards receiving. Colt Kennedy helped Shawnee Heights' passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 63 yards.

The Thunderbirds' dynamic duo of Wheatley and Hubert proved to be unstoppable against the Bluejays, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Singer was the best running back in the league this week. Blake Peterson also contributed to the rushing game with 50 yards on the ground.

Hubert was the best wideout in the league this week as Shawnee Heights lost to Junction City/St. Xavier.

Wheatley put up the best numbers in passing as Jason Swift's team fell to Randall Zimmerman's team.

Leading Centennial in both passing and receiving yards, the Thunderbirds' Wheatley and Kennedy have proven to be a lethal combination. Wheatley has thrown for 270 yards this season, while Kennedy, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 11 catches for 153 yards. The Blues' Singer leads the league in rushing yards with 265.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Washburn Rural takes on West. Steve Buhler's team is currently in third, while the Chargers are in second.

The Blues made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,103 from 4,272. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 21-18 victory over the Wildcats last week.
