Union Pines waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They breezed past the Lee County Yellow Jackets to the tune of 42-3. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 159th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ian Hicks went supernova, throwing for 164 yards and a pair of TDs, while also rushing for 75 yards on only five carries. Those 75 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrian Colon, who rushed for 66 yards and two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Union Pines was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 211 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 197 rushing yards in four consecutive games.

Union Pines' victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Lee County, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4.

Looking ahead, Union Pines will welcome Western Harnett at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
