The Maple Mountain Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Wasatch Wasps at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Maple Mountain's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Wasatch's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Maple Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Pleasant Grove, who was ranked fifth at the time (Maple Mountain was ranked tenth). The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Vikings 3-2 on Thursday.
Kavyn Carter tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Maple Mountain's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Giles, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Wasatch's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 9-5 to Payson.
Austin Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-4. Royal Matthews was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Wasatch's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Maple Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 18-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Maple Mountain hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wasatch struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Maple Mountain's way against Wasatch when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Maple Mountain made off with a 7-1 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Wasps have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
