Football Game Preview: Manteo Redskins vs. Bertie Falcons

For the first time this season, Manteo will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After both having extra time off, they and the Bertie Falcons will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Manteo's defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so Bertie's offense will have their work cut out for them.

On September 12th, Manteo beat Hobgood Charter 20-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Redskins.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Finn Schultz and Oliver Fifield. Schultz rushed for 90 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries while Fifield rushed for 42 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 90 rushing yards gave Schultz a new career-high.

Manteo's run defense was locked in: Hobgood Charter could only muster 1.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Schultz stood above the rest. He rushed for 90 yards and one score on only 11 carries. Manteo's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.9.

Manteo's defense didn't let Luke Lanier, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jerry Frazier with two.

Meanwhile, Bertie was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Currituck County, falling 42-0.

Manteo's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Bertie, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

Manteo strolled past Bertie in their previous matchup back in September of 2019 by a score of 61-42. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Falcons' Isaiah Williams, who threw for 256 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 35 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Redskins to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
