Baseball Recap: Raritan Takes a Loss

Raritan had taken St. John-Vianney down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Rockets fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 3-2. The Rockets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lancers earlier this season, when they won 11-4.

Raritan got a good showing from Bear Evernham, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Evernham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Raritan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alan Warren, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Raritan has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-5 record this season. As for St. John-Vianney, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Looking ahead, Raritan will challenge Freehold Township at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rockets 3.8, the Patriots 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. John-Vianney, they will square off against Freehold Boro at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Colonials have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.43 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
