Basketball Recap: Nicholas County Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Parkersburg, Nicholas County was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 59-58 win over the Hoover Huskies. The victory was some much needed relief for the Grizzlies as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ayva Veltri and Bella Haas certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Veltri went 10 for 20 on her way to 23 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Haas went 5 of 11 en route to 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Those 16 points gave Haas a new career-high.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Hoover, their loss was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-3.

Nicholas County will head out to square off against Shady Spring at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hoover, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Sissonville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sissonville will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Hoover surely won't give up without a fight.
