Baseball Recap: Whiting Takes a Loss

Whiting extended their losing streak to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They came up short against the Illiana Christian Vikings, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Monday.

As for Illiana Christian, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games.

For Illiana Christian's part, Gabe Soto made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Soto a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, earning one RBI and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Ayden VanKuiken was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jake Scott, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Whiting will welcome Hammond Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Oilers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Governors have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Illiana Christian, they will venture away from home to challenge Hanover Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Vikings 1.1, the Wildcats 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
