Softball Recap: Gladstone Has No Trouble Against Madras

Gladstone got themselves on the board against Madras on Wednesday, but Madras never followed suit. They blew past the White Buffaloes 16-0. The Gladiators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.

Ashlynne Franssen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Gladstone got a massive performance out of Maycee Terry, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Caroline Ashby, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Gladstone always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .720. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Gladstone's record is now 4-6. As for Madras, their defeat was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Gladstone will take on rival Estacada at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gladiators 3.4, the Rangers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Madras is set to square off against their familiar foe The Dalles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
