Baseball Game Preview: Lakeland Christian Vikings vs. Fort Meade Miners

The Lakeland Christian Vikings will be taking part in a tournament against the Fort Meade Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lakeland Christian 2.5, Fort Meade 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lakeland Christian's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past George Jenkins 7-0. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Lakeland Christian got a great performance from Carson Martin as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. Martin has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Kant, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Brooks Blankenship, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Fort Meade didn't have quite enough to beat Mulberry on Friday and fell 2-1.

Fort Meade saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zachary Brooks, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Lakeland Christian has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.1 runs over those games. As for Fort Meade, their loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lakeland Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fort Meade struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Lakeland Christian took their victory against Fort Meade in their previous matchup back in March of 2017 by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Miners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
