Football Recap: Steinbrenner Starts Season with Victory Against King

Steinbrenner had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the King Lions 45-0. The Warriors pushed the score to 38-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions had no chance of recovering from.

A big part of Steinbrenner's victory came down to the chemistry between Rylen Dutka and his top target Jaydon Page. Dutka threw for 186 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 passes while Page picked up 82 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave Page a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two). Chance Robertson was in the mix too, providing Steinbrenner with two scores.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Steinbrenner, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Robertson, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Steinbrenner's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Evan Martin refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Another thorn in King's side was Connor Purcell, who forced two fumbles and made six total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Steinbrenner will take on River Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for King, they will square off against Brandon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
