Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

Mt. Vernon dropped their record down to 9-14 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Centralia Orphans by a score of 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rams have suffered since April 8th.

Ryker Perigo led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Curry, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

As for Centralia, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Centralia's side, Aiden Endres was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. The Orphans are undefeated when Endres posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Drake Fahringer, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will be playing at home against Marshall County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Centralia, they will venture away from home to challenge Carlyle at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
