Soccer Game Preview: Hinsdale South vs. Downers Grove South

Hinsdale South is 1-9 against Downers Grove South since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Hornets will head out to take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Hinsdale South will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Hinsdale South's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Marist 5-0. The result was nothing new for Hinsdale South, who have now won eight matchups by four goals or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Downers Grove South has been on a difficult stretch since their win on April 22. They fell just short of Oswego by a score of 2-1 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Downers Grove South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 108th, while Oswego are ranked 17th).

Hinsdale South pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four contests. As for Downers Grove South, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5-2.

Hinsdale South suffered a grim 4-1 defeat to Downers Grove South in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
