Recap: St. Marys Blue Devils vs. Belpre Golden Eagles
The St. Marys Blue Devils came tearing into Saturday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past Belpre 49-46. Given St. Marys' advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 17th in West Virginia, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 314th in Ohio), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Marys' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addie "r" Davis, who scored 11 points along with six steals. Davis hasn't dropped below three steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Brynnley Bulluck, who scored 13 points along with five blocks.
Belpre's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haley Alloway, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alloway has scored all season. Cheylynn Parsons was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Even though they lost, Belpre smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Marys only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
St. Marys' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Belpre, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.
St. Marys will head out on the road to take on the Maroon Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wheeling Central Catholic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Belpre, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
