Preview: Douglass Eagles vs. Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders
The Douglass Eagles will take on the Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders in a holiday battle at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at. Douglass will be strutting in after a win while Eleanor Roosevelt will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Douglass didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Surrattsville, but they still walked away with a 57-52 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Douglass.
Douglass' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Francessca Svizzero led the charge by scoring 15 points. The game was Svizzero's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Courtney Smith, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Eleanor Roosevelt's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Flowers 70-31.
Douglass pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Eleanor Roosevelt, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
Douglass came up short against Eleanor Roosevelt when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 36-31. Thankfully for Douglass, Shealyn Ricks (who scored 23 points along with six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
