Softball Game Preview: Wayne County War Eagles vs. Meridian Wildcats

Wayne County has gone a perfect 4-0 against Meridian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The War Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Wayne County will be strutting in after a win while Meridian will be coming in after a loss.

Last Tuesday, Wayne County got the win against West Jones by a conclusive 10-1.

Brianna Hudson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Karson Tate was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Gandy, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Meridian fell victim to Brandon and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 12-0. The Wildcats haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Meridian's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Wayne County, their record is now 6-13-1.

Wayne County took their victory against Meridian when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the War Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
