Football Game Preview: Warwick Wildcats vs. Washingtonville Wizards

Warwick is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Washingtonville Wizards at 6:00 p.m. Warwick has given up an average of 25.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Warwick is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Friday. They fell 35-26 to Goshen Central. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Daniel Lupkovich, who rushed for 75 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 182 yards on 18 of 27 attempts. Sean Perez was in the mix as well, providing Warwick with one touchdown.

Meanwhile, Washingtonville didn't have quite enough to beat Minisink Valley on Friday and fell 21-18. While losing is never fun, the Wizards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Warriors are ranked 81st).

Even if they lost, Washingtonville's defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Minisink Valley's side was Vince Lombardi, who made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Warwick's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Washingtonville, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Warwick strolled past Washingtonville in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 43-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
