Kentwood extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mt. Rainier Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-10 back in April.

Gabby Greenwood was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kendyl Toeaina was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Kay McGuire also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Mt. Rainier, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.
Like Kentwood, Mt. Rainier also got a great game from a two-way player: Kadence Avila Petitt. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Avila Petitt was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Makayla Oliver was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kendall Parker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kentwood will head out to face off against Kentridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Conquerors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season. As for Mt. Rainier, they will venture away from home to square off against Stadium at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
