Baseball Game Preview: Salem Generals vs. Argyle Scots

The Salem Generals will challenge the Argyle Scots at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Salem will be strutting in after a win while Argyle will be coming in after a defeat.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Salem nor Fort Ann made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Generals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 4-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Generals.

Fort Ann's batters probably weren't too happy with Stephen Yakubec, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 18 Ks (he gave up three walks). Yakubec has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single hit in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Chase Baylor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Petell, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Argyle was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 10-1 to Hartford Central. The matchup marked the Scots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Salem's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Argyle, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything went Salem's way against Argyle in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Salem made off with a 13-4 victory. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
