League recap: Shepherd dominating on the mound for West Wilkes

2A/1A Mountain Valley league recap: 5/22/13

West Wilkes's Will Shepherd was the best pitcher in 2A/1A Mountain Valley this week. Over the past week, he had one win and 12 Ks.

First place in the league belongs to Wilkes Central, which has compiled a 22-6 overall record to go with its 14-2 league record. Forbush is in second place, 3 games behind with an 11-5 record in league play.

The Blackhawks boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

Starmount's Sawyer Davis was locked in this week, and led the league with a .667 average (2-for-3) over that span. He's batting .321 on the year, which puts him at 21st in the league. Davis has accumulated 26 base knocks this year so far.

West Wilkes' Shepherd led the league in strikeouts this week with 12. He's fourth in the league with 83 total strikeouts.



Jamey Cranford struck out ten in Elkin's 2-1 win over Alleghany on May 14. He gave up five hits and one run over eight innings of work.
