Basketball Recap: Xavier Rendon Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Uvalde

Pearsall won the last time they faced Uvalde and things went their way on Friday too. The stars were shining brightly for the Pearsall Mavericks in a 61-45 win over the Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls). Given the Mavericks' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 512th, while the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) are ranked 1125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pearsall's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Rendon, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 boards. Marcus Woodard was another key player, going 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and six steals.

Pearsall pushed their record up to 16-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Uvalde, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Pearsall will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Carrizo Springs at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Pearsall is facing Carrizo Springs at the right time seeing as Carrizo Springs is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Uvalde will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Floresville at 12:30 p.m. on December 31st. Floresville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Uvalde likes a good challenge.
