Softball Recap: Palacios Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Columbus, Palacios was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Edna Cowboys 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Sharks: when they faced off against the Cowboys back in March, they had to take a 8-3 loss.

Jahana Starrett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Starrett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riley Critendon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Alexandria Elizondo also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Palacios' victory bumped their record up to 3-9-2. As for Edna, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-14-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palacios will challenge Tidehaven at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Sharks' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Edna, they will square off against Industrial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cobras have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
