Soccer Game Preview: Desert View vs. Salpointe Catholic

The Desert View Jaguars will be taking part in a tournament against the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Desert View's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Desert View is headed into Saturday's following a draw, the team's first since November 25. They and Rincon/University finished up on equal footing with a 1-1 draw on Friday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Salpointe Catholic). Everything went their way against Rio Rico on Thursday as Salpointe Catholic made off with a 10-1 victory. Considering the Lancers have won five matchups by more than four goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The win (which was Salpointe Catholic's third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. Desert View's draw gives them a new season record of 4-3-2.

Desert View came up short against Salpointe Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2016, falling 2-0. Can Desert View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
