Gillespie had won six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they bumped their record up to 14-8 to make it seven. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Southwestern Piasa Birds. For the Miners, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 win the Piasa Birds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.
Luke Schuckenbrock was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Gillespie: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jack Kaylor, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 16th.
On Southwestern's side, Johnny Kunz was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ike Austin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances.
