Union Grove is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Overton is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lions will welcome the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
It was a proper cat-fight when Union Grove challenged Harleton on Saturday. The Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over the Wildcats.
Olivia Dabreu spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Aubrie Coulter and Jamie Webb did most of the damage at the plate: Coulter scored two runs while going 2-for-5, while Webb scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mia Mullican, who scored a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Overton made easy work of Ore City on Saturday and carried off a 13-4 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Kelsey Vaught made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Overton let Kasha Williams and Bryleigh Nelson run wild. Williams scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Nelson scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those four stolen bases gave Williams a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Emery, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Overton has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Union Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Union Grove couldn't quite get it done against Overton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 12-9. Will the Lions have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
