Basketball Recap: Delissa Morris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Haines City over Westminster Academy

Haines City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 46-35 to the Westminster Academy Lions.

Several Hornets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Delissa Morris, who posted eight points and seven boards. Morris has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zebrielle Canaday, who had seven points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Haines City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Haines City's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Westminster Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Haines City will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lake Wales at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025. Haines City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season. As for Westminster Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cherokee at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
