Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McAllen Memorial). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Javelinas recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Rj Rios made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because McAllen Memorial is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. Rios was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.

In other batting news, McAllen Memorial let Kane Coy and Jose Rivera run wild. Coy scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Rivera went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Coy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eloy Lozano, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

McAllen Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

McAllen Memorial's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-10. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
