Football Game Preview: M.L. King Lions vs. Mays Raiders + How To Watch

The M.L. King Lions are taking a road trip to challenge the Mays Raiders at 7:31 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

M.L. King will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Midtown on Thursday. The Lions claimed a resounding 40-6 victory over the Knights. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Knights are ranked 363rd).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead M.L. King to victory, but perhaps none more so than Javion Dobbs, who threw for 288 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.7 yards per attempt. A healthy portion of that aerial production (120 yards to be exact) went to Jaylen Robinson, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something M.L. King proved: they limited Midtown to a paltry 1.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Christopher Dupree stood above the rest. He made nine total tackles (3.0 for loss). M.L. King didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.5.

Meanwhile, Mays strolled past Jackson with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 22-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Mays' defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Zaykeya Carter Jr and Malik Glass, who racked up four sacks between them. Mays is 2-1 when Glass posts one or more sacks, but 1-3 otherwise. The Raiders got some further help from Gerald Hunter: he made eight total tackles and defended three passes in addition to snagging two interceptions.

M.L. King's record is now 6-1. As for Mays, their record now sits at 3-4.

M.L. King came up short against Mays when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 20-15. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
