Recap: Poinciana Eagles vs. Mulberry Panthers
If The Poinciana Eagles were feeling good off their 37-14 takedown of the Lake Buena Vista Vipers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Poinciana fell 29-22 to Mulberry on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Poinciana in their matchups with Mulberry: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, Poinciana still got an impressive performance from Wilgance Nezius, who rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Mulberry was led to victory by Dyvonique McWilliams and Dj Duvalt. McWilliams rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, while Duvalt rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Mulberry also got a significant boost from Lloyd Knight, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 81 yards.
Poinciana has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Mulberry, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Poinciana will look to defend their home field on Friday against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. Liberty comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Mulberry, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake Placid at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Placid is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
