Basketball Recap: Calhoun Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Calhoun entered their tilt with Gilmer on Wednesday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 64-50 victory over the Gilmer Bobcats. While the Yellow Jackets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Calhoun was led to victory by Trey Perkins and Trace Hawkins. Perkins dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards, while Hawkins went 6 of 15 en route to 16 points. The dominant performance gave Perkins a new career-high in rebounds. Jaden Perkins also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Calhoun smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Gilmer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Keegen Bryant, who posted 14 points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jd Taylor, who put up 24 points and eight boards.

Calhoun's win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-2. As for Gilmer, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Calhoun didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-55 victory against Notre Dame on the 13th. As for Gilmer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-57 defeat against Northwest Whitfield on the 15th.
