Softball Recap: Eastern Greene Takes a Loss

Eastern Greene extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 2-13. They lost 21-3 to the South Knox Spartans. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunderbirds of the 7-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for South Knox, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

For South Knox's part, Kenna Rehwald spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. Rehwald has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cala Charleston was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Gladish, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Eastern Greene will head out to challenge Eminence at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.29 runs per game on average), something the Thunderbirds will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Knox, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northview at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
