Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Academy Gets the Win

With a playoff win on the line, St. Mary's Academy rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 49-39 victory over the Kennedy Commanders. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Commanders: they've now won three in a row.

Madison High had an outrageously good game as she shot 44% from the field on her way to 21 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hazel Mills, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

St. Mary's Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only four assists.

Kennedy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aleeyah Garcia, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Williams, who scored nine points.

St. Mary's Academy's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Kennedy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-8 record this season.

St. Mary's Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 67-28 loss against University on the 8th. Kennedy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
