            Baseball Recap: Chariho Chargers vs. North Providence Cougars        
        
		
        
        
            Chariho faced North Providence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Chargers never let the Cougars get on the board and left with  a   3-0  victory. The game was the first time the Chargers have beaten the Cougars on their field since May 16, 2023.
Not much got past  Landon Sumner, who gave up just  two  hits and racked up eight Ks to keep North Providence off the board. Sumner also  tossed  no  earned runs, which is notable because Chariho is 9-3 when he allows at  most  three  earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

 On the hitting side,  the team  relied heavily on  Christian Mancini, who  went 2-for-3 with one  triple, one  run,  and one  RBI. Those  two  hits gave  him a new career-high.

Chariho is  on a roll lately: they've  won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record  this season. Those  wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for North Providence, they moved to 16-7 with that  loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Chariho will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cougars: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled  at 3:45  p.m.  on Tuesday.
