Basketball Game Preview: Second Baptist Eagles vs. Emery/Weiner

Second Baptist is 9-1 against Emery/Weiner since December of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Eagles will host Emery/Weiner at 3:30 p.m. Second Baptist knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 27 contests -- so hopefully Emery/Weiner likes a good challenge.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. Everything went Second Baptist's way against Fort Bend Christian Academy as they made off with a 73-47 win. Second Baptist has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 23 points or more this season.

Second Baptist's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reese Alston, who shot 64% from the field en route to 16 points along with seven assists and four steals. The matchup was Alston's tenth in a row with at least 16 points. Shia Francis was another key player, going 7-for-12 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Emery/Weiner had to suffer through a 59-32 loss at the hands of Lutheran South Academy.

Second Baptist's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 25-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 88.0 points over those games. As for Emery/Weiner, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Second Baptist against Emery/Weiner when the teams last played back in December of 2025, as the squad secured a 65-21 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do Emery/Weiner have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
