Basketball Recap: Central Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Central was feeling good fresh off their 62-16 takedown of Percy Julian last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Central Red Devils opened the new year with a less-than-successful 67-55 defeat to the Auburn Tigers. The match was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but the Red Devils couldn't quite close it out.

Jabria Lindsey and Kandria Mebuge certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lindsey went 6 of 15 en route to 18 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Mebuge dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Lindsey's evening made it 26 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Todd, who posted six points.

Central's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-4. As for Auburn, their victory bumped their record up to 17-5.

The future could be bright for both Central and Auburn: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Central will try to hand Opelika their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Auburn will try to hand Smiths Station their third-straight loss when the two meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
