MaxPreps California Regional Bowl Game Projections

The official matchups will be announced Dec. 3, but here's what they might look like if decided today.

Both quarterbacks have thrown for more than 2,400 yards and 29 TDs this season.

And now it starts to get exciting.

For weeks, speculation on possible teams and match-ups for the CIF Regional Bowl games was a complete guessing game. Now, just three weeks until the end of section playoffs, and the 24-game semifinal into the state finals, is looking clearer.

Based primarily on the MaxPreps computer ratings combined with section brackets, the following are projected regional match-ups. If the favorites — the team with the highest computer rating — wins each bracket, the pairing, picked by the CIF state commissioners, should look like the selections below.

There were a couple of exceptions. This week the computer has awarded Folsom with more points than De La Salle. However if both teams win their respective section brackets, it is an almost foregone conclusion, the commissioners will select De La Salle, which hasn't been defeated by a team North of Fresno since 1991.

Up to three Central Section champions can be moved into the North Region, but we have selected just two. There were also a pair of games selected more on proximity than straight computer ratings.

Lastly, note that the regional Open Division selections are the best team from the North and South and don't play regional games. Instead, each receives a bye heading into the state bowl championships, which are Dec. 15-16.

Without further ado, here are the projections.
