Basketball Recap: Rhys Gamble's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverview Sarasota over Lehigh

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Riverview Sarasota can now relate to. They took a 79-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lehigh Lightning on Wednesday. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lightning from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Riverview Sarasota's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rhys Gamble, who went 8-for-14 on his way to 20 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Gamble a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Farris, who went 7-for-9 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Riverview Sarasota smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lehigh to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justin Gollop, who went 12-for-21 to rack up 26 points and eight boards. Kionus Walters was another key player, going 6-for-10 on his way to 18 points.

Riverview Sarasota's defeat dropped their record down to 14-12. As for Lehigh, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-3.

Riverview Sarasota has already played their next match, a 102-75 loss against Osceola on the 12th. As for Lehigh, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-52 defeat against Sarasota on the 7th.
