Softball Recap: Normal West Takes a Loss

Normal West had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Normal Community Ironmen, falling 15-3. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Ironmen apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Erika Durham was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-2.

As for Normal Community, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games.

On Normal Community's side, the team relied heavily on Haley Baughman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Baughman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Engel, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Normal West will square off against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Normal Community, they will challenge Glenwood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Titans will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Ironmen surely won't give up without a fight.
