Baseball Recap: Marina Comes Up Short

Marina extended their losing streak to 11 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-19 in the process. They lost 10-4 to the Newport Harbor Sailors. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this match were averaging 3.79 runs allowed.

NICK MIZOGUCHI made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of LEO GOODWIN, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

As for Newport Harbor, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6. They have beaten Marina the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Marina has come to flipping the script.

On Newport Harbor's side, Lucas Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Perez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Gahm, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ryan Williams, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
