Basketball Game Preview: Blythewood Bengals vs. Spring Valley Vikings

Two dominant forwards in Chase Thomas and Mariana Moody are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Blythewood Bengals will head out on the road to take on the Spring Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Spring Valley will be up against a hot Blythewood team: the squad just extended their winning streak to ten. Blythewood blew past Westwood 62-38 on Friday. Given the Bengals' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Redhawks are ranked 70th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Spring Valley blew past Lugoff-Elgin, posting an 84-31 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Blythewood better focus on containing Moody and Lauren Crosland as the pair were huge in Spring Valley's win. Moody dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Crosland went 10 for 16 on her way to 23 points. Crosland is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Jalaya Pinckney was another key player, putting up eight points.

Spring Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lugoff-Elgin only racked up ten assists.

Blythewood's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.4 points per game. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.

Blythewood strolled past Spring Valley in their previous matchup on January 6th by a score of 71-55. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Spring Valley's Zie'L Ratchford, who went 7 of 8 en route to 21 points and three steals.
