Flag Football Recap: Lakewood Piles Up the Points Against Standley Lake

A well-balanced attack led Lakewood over Standley Lake in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tigers blew the Gators out of the water with a 33-0 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Tigers had established a 26-point advantage.

A big part of Lakewood's win came down to the chemistry between Saylor Slaughter and her top target Caroline Bane. Slaughter threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns while Bane picked up 105 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Bane also deserves a shoutout for her performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Lakewood proved: they limited Standley Lake to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Victoria Carrillo for the heroic effort on defense: she. Lakewood didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.3.

Lakewood's defense didn't let Trista Ennis-Switzer, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Carrillo.

Lakewood's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-7. As for Standley Lake, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
