Bluffton is 2-8 against Hilton Head Island since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bobcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. Bluffton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Bluffton fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against May River on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 12-8 to the Sharks. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Bradley Robbins was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter All, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Hilton Head Island waltzed into their contest on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 18-17 W against the Smoky Bears. The Seahawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Hilton Head Island got a massive performance out of Slater Alsobrook, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Alsobrook has posted since back in April of 2024. Grady Cherrington-Dunton also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Hilton Head Island kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Hilton Head Island's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bluffton, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Hilton Head Island's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bluffton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Hilton Head Island, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Bluffton's hitters?
Bluffton came up short against Hilton Head Island when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
