Football Recap: Mayer Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Mayer duked it out with Superior on Thursday. The Wildcats had to suffer through a 42-0 loss at the hands of the Panthers. The Wildcats lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 1-0 score last time.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Superior to victory, but perhaps none more so than Antonio Lopez, who threw for 234 yards and four TDs while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushed for 51 yards and one score. What's more, Lopez racked up 136.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Ryland Duarte did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 108 receiving yards.

This is the second loss in a row for Mayer and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Superior, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayer will welcome Red Rock at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Superior, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Williams at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
