Apple Valley hasn't had much luck against Hesperia recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Sun Devils will be playing at home against the Scorpions at 5:15 p.m.
Apple Valley managed to slip by Serrano the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Sun Devils came up short against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, falling 3-0.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-5, 25-16.
Meanwhile, Hesperia entered their tilt with Burroughs on Wednesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They came within a single set of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Burros.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (107-102) Hesperia actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 28-26, 19-25, 15-25, 25-22, 15-9.
Hesperia's win came from a few key players Apple Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Emily Ventroni, who had 20 digs and two aces. She has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deziree Mendoza, who had 18 digs and two aces.
Hesperia's win bumped their record up to 23-1. As for Apple Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Apple Valley couldn't quite get it done against Hesperia when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Scorpions' Dylanna Akwaboah, who had 15 digs and three aces. Now that the Sun Devils know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
