Baseball Game Preview: Pearl Pirates vs. Petal Panthers

For the second straight game, Pearl will face off against Petal. The Pirates will head out to face off against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pearl has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Pearl came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 17-2 to Petal.

For Petal's part, Jayden Madison made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Madison has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Kaleb Dillon looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Jaylen Lee was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Nathan Garner was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Petal is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pearl, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
