Softball Game Preview: Liberty Bison vs. Heritage Patriots

The Liberty Bison will challenge the Heritage Patriots at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, Liberty earned a 5-2 win over Yucaipa.

Brooklyn Abeyta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jolie Tompkins was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Julianna Larson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Heritage made easy work of West Valley on Tuesday and carried off a 12-6 victory. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Kenya Ponce, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Garcia, who scored a run while going 4-for-6.

Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Valley only posted an OBP of .375.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. Heritage's win bumped their record up to 2-6.

Liberty took their victory against Heritage in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Liberty repeat their success, or does Heritage has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
